Dear Friends:

In 1995, a small group of visionary parents had their dream become reality, and “a school grew in Brooklyn” — a little day school committed to building an inclusive and progressive Jewish community. That inaugural year, our school had 14 students in the first and second grades, and I was honored to be their teacher.

Over the past 25 years, our school has blossomed. We have a clear sense of purpose and a strong mission. We have built an educational program that creates joyful, engaged, and passionate learners who form their own Jewish identities and use Jewish learning as a guide to navigate the world at school and beyond. We have an engaged parent body with strong relationships and an open and inclusive community.

In recent years, our middle school has doubled in size and we see our Senesh students developing strong and meaningful Jewish identities and becoming responsible citizens of the world. We now have 241 alumni. Year after year, Senesh graduates go on to highly regarded high schools, colleges, and gap year programs. Our alumni have established careers, are becoming profound leaders and changemakers, and are raising children of their own (future Senesh students.)

Our sense of community remains strong and parent volunteers still make our school what it is by participating on the board and volunteers committees, assisting in classroom projects, chaperoning field trips, running family social action projects, and spearheading events.

Throughout, we have remained true to the original mission established by those inspired parents in 1995, to provide a progressive, community-based, pluralistic Jewish education for children. Our mission has evolved in nuanced ways as we have become more sophisticated and adapt to the changes we see in the world around us.

As we embark on our 25th anniversary year, we are looking forward to celebrating our accomplishments over the past quarter century with our students, parents, alumni families, staff, and friends. Please join us at events throughout the next year to celebrate Senesh@25!

Best,

Nicole Nash
