March 11: Pajamas and Purim

Humanities:  In reading, the classes have been hard at work in their Autism Book Clubs. Each group has been reading a book which features a person with autism as the narrator or main character. We have learned about neurodiversity and specifically what it means to be a person with autism, focusing on how each person is an individual with unique experiences. Dear Families, This week, we celebrated the 100th day of school! Thanks for your help preparing our special 100-piece snacks! Students have been counting the days of school since the very beginning of the year, using paper clips to help track our process. These paper hats each had 10 strips of paper on them. Each strip of paper had a collection of...

We discussed how a big part of what scientists do is try to group different kinds of things together so we can understand the world better. For example, over the last weeks we talked about living vs. nonliving, but within the group “living things” are the groups “animals”, “plants”, and “fungi”. Kindergarteners...

3rd Grade: 3/11

Reading We are still getting used to book clubs and working independently. Each time book clubs meet, students are reading chapters and answering questions or looking at new vocabulary words. This week, we’re focusing on the characteristics of the main character. We have been having great conversations about what we know about the character based on what they say and do. Writing We continued to finalize our biographies. This week we talked about paragraphs and how to organize a paragraph. They usually start with an introduction or what the paragraph is about. Then there are supporting details and examples. When...
